GENERAL PURPOSE:

The School of Business at Heidelberg University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance position to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a multi-year position with the possibility of applying for additional multi-year extensions. We seek an innovative and collaborative teacher-scholar who is committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service to the university community. The successful candidate will contribute to the dynamic and growing finance program and play a pivotal role in preparing students for leadership roles in business and finance.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Business


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance may supervise teaching assistants and student research conducted in the department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance will:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in finance or other school of business courses as needed (24 credit hours per year). Courses will include, but are not limited to, Principles of Finance, Corporate Finance, Investments, Financial Markets, and International Finance.
  • Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the School of Business' mission and learning objectives.
  • Develop and mentor students in academic and career advising, as well as supervision of student research projects and internships.
  • Engage in curriculum development, including the incorporation of current industry trends and technology into the finance program.
  • Participate actively in department, school, and university service, including serving on committees and contributing to accreditation and assessment processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary research, teaching initiatives, and business community outreach.
  • Maintain professional development in both teaching and research and stay current with advancements in the finance field.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned/as outlined in the Faculty Manual.

Requirements

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Professional Experience:

  • MBA or MS in Finance
  • Ability to teach a variety of finance courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Commitment to student engagement, experiential learning, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Online teaching certification or evidence of prior experience teaching online
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collegial and collaborative approach to academic work


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • ABD, DBA, or Ph.D. in Finance.
  • Two years college level teaching experience, including teaching at the graduate level.
  • Ability to perform research with undergraduates. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness to participate in campus responsibilities and activities during the day, evenings, and/or weekends at both on-campus and off-campus locations.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer

to include MS Office platform, Google Suite, and Canvas. Employees in this position must have a valid driver's

license.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting. The employee may be frequently

required to be mobile, communicate, and hear. The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include occasional varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office setting, and educational facilities including laboratories, all of which may be indoor or outdoor. The noise level in the work environment

will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.


SELECTION GUIDELINES:

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance will be selected after a formal application procedure, education and experience rating, oral interview, and reference check.
