Overview
i3 is looking for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to support our growing team in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities

  • Utilize 3-D computer aided design (CAD) tools to create component and system designs supporting model development and associated fabrication drawings.
  • Develop 3D models and drawings meeting ASME standards to support technology data packages (TDPs).
  • Use GD&T and conventional tolerancing to accurately communicate design intent.
  • Interact with design engineers and vendors to optimize designs.
  • Generation of test plans, technical reports, and presentations documenting the work performed.
  • Utilize measurement tools (micrometer, caliper, surface plate etc.) to conduct part inspection and reverse engineering.
  • Support engineering efforts in preparation for Critical Design Reviews (CDRs).
  • Assist in the coordination with key vendors and/or suppliers.
  • Assist in the management and organization of government furnished equipment (GFE).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience may substitute for degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience participating in the design of complex mechanical assemblies preferred.
  • Prior experience utilizing three-dimensional computer aided design tools to create component and assembly models and associated drawing packages.
  • Specific experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication and assembly processes in a machine shop environment preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the design and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the use of SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Ability to travel to suppliers as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Physical Demands

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
