Independence Community College Position Announcement Associate Professor of Allied Health and Allied Health Program Director

Independence Community College (ICC) is seeking applications for the tenure-track position of Associate Professor of Allied Health and Allied Health Program Director. Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serves approximately 1,000 full- and part-time students each year. Position Information

Responsible for performing a wide variety of duties, including the following: teaching certified nurse aid (CNA), certified medication aide (CMA) courses as part of individual course offerings and the established Long Term Care certificate, providing regular assessment data from taught courses; Position requires flexible hours, reflecting day, evening and weekend opportunities.

The Associate Professor of Allied Health/Allied Health Program Director position is full time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position with benefits, including support with professional development and continuing education.

Salary placement on the Faculty Negotiated Agreement is commensurate with education and experience.

This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs as part of the Business and Technology Division and requires teaching, coordinating, and recruiting for allied health classes and will also help to fulfill the mission objectives and strategies of the College. This position is scheduled to start mid-August 2024.

Qualifications

Must hold a current Kansas Registered Nurse license with a minimum of two years full-time registered licensed nursing experience (RN) including one of the following:

  • At least 1,750 hours of that experience must be as a licensed nurse in a setting which demonstrates long-term nursing care, such as an adult care home, long term care unit of a hospital or a state institution OR complete at least 7 hours professional continuing education in "Person Centered Care for the Adult Care Home".

AND one or more of the following:

  • Experience supervising nurse aides 
  • Experience teaching adults 
  • Complete a course in teaching adults 
  • Complete a professional continuing education offering on supervision or adult education.

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, preferred.

Two or more years of community college teaching experience, high school teaching experience, experience working with a diverse student body, and experience with assessment, preferred.

An educational philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college.

Primary Responsibilities

· Teaching certified nurse aid, certified medication aid, home health aid, and other courses based on credentials. Courses are offered to traditional college and high school students and require clinical time in local facilities. · Recruit and retain students to the college and the Allied Health program. · Maintain classroom space and necessary equipment and supplies. · Perform Allied Health Director responsibilities as outlined in the Negotiated Agreement. · Provide availability during posted office hours for student advisement and academic assistance. · Encourage student retention, continuity, progress in coursework and program, and student success. · Present expertise in content area and keep abreast of advancements in the domain healthcare. · Work with other faculty and leadership on student learning and program outcomes. · Work with the instructional team to provide course outcomes assessment, follow-up, and improvement(s). · Work with other instructors and college personnel to promote ICC and the curricula offerings. · Fiscally responsible for assisting in budget development, budget implementation, and control necessary to deliver instructional programs in an efficient and effective manner to provide access and quality learning experiences. · Assist in development of new programming, including funds development, recruitment, curriculum development and revision. · Maintain and enhance teaching excellence through ongoing professional development by participation through in-service training, workshops, seminars, travel, and publication. · Provide input in the college's organizational shared governance structure through involvement in committees, councils and supportive activities related to the development and enhancement of the college mission and strategies. · Provide a positive learning environment committed to ICC student success by being receptive to various learning modalities (e.g. on-line, video, accelerated, and hybrid) found in the comprehensive community college setting. · Provide information and assist with external reporting for accreditation, governmental, and state agencies. · Ensure the security of all ICC property under the supervision of this role. · Communicate effectively with sensitivity to student learning styles and developmental needs. · Adhere to general rules of safety, procedures, and ethical job standards.

Requires the ability to sit or stand or walk for extended and various periods of time.

Requires the ability to communicate clearly with small or large groups of people, with an excellent comprehension of the English language, is essential.

Work is generally performed in an indoor setting, in an office or a classroom as directed, using commonly used technology and resources to facilitate instruction.

Must be able to provide own transportation to and from campus and other work sites and must maintain appropriate licensing to operate college vehicles.
