PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The primary role of the BVMP Audiologist Hearing Aide Tech is to perform hearing tests for patients and to assist the Audiology department with day to day activities.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Performs hearing tests for clinic patients.
  • Duty 2: Checks hearing aids dropped off for repair - Repairs and returns the hearing aid to patient. Sends the aid to repair, enters repair in TIMS, enters charges in Aprima, and notifies patient when the repair returns.
  • Duty 3: Checks in new hearing aids for dispense - Checks to make sure the hearing aids work. Verifies molds arrive for aids that require them. Verifies the patient has a dispense appointment.
  • Duty 4: Verifies all items arrived for upcoming appointments. Pulls hearing aids/molds for dispense the night before the appointment.
  • Duty 5: Tracks dispensed aids/trial end dates. Tracks the spreadsheet to ensure hearing aid charges are paid timely.
  • Duty 6: Verifies patient's hearing aid benefits and explains coverage to the patient as necessary. Enters the benefit plan info into Aprima. Enters V-codes when charged.
  • Duty 7: Submits Medicaid Prior-Authorization requests for new/replacement hearing aides, hearing aid repairs, etc. Receives authorizations/denials, enters authorization #'s in Aprima and schedules EMI/HAD/recheck appointments as needed.
  • Duty 8: Receives all phone correspondence for the Audio Department. Troubleshoots issues, directs pertinent calls to the audiologists and schedules/reschedules patient appointments.
  • Duty 9: Sends BCMH Battery Club
  • Duty 10: Newsletter - reviews scanned audiograms and adds necessary patients to the TIMS newsletter list. Sends the newsletter address list to outside mailing company.
  • Duty 11: Calls hearing aid class patients/set up for class as needed.
  • Duty 12: Audiology Dept Responsibilities: Orders Audiology Supplies, Template/Block schedules for vacations, appointments, etc. Distributes mail and checks the email inbox.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment/instruments
  • Experience with throat cultures, hemocues, hemoccults, glucometer, urinalysis, urine pregnancy testing
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Oto Tech Certification
  • Experience in giving injections/blood draws
  • Typing and medical terminology experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting, and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, stand for five hours a day and sit for two hours. The individual must be able to lift twenty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity to operate machines. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to communicate with patients, providers, and co-workers. The associate must have vision corrected and hearing in the normal range.

This position is classified "at risk" for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
