Motiva is seeking a Chemicals and Specialty Products Supply Manager to join the Motiva Manufacturing Optimization (MO) organization. Chemicals and Specialty Products Supply Manager is responsible for chemicals and specialty products acquisition, commercial optimization, price-risk and inventory management to meet the requirements for Motiva's refinery system. Additionally, the Chemicals and Specialty Products Supply Manager will draw upon knowledge and understanding of domestic and foreign supply and demand balances and logistical landscape to identify price dislocations and proactively develop and implement value-added discretionary physical and/or financial strategies to enhance profitability and ensure a robust supply plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining an up-to-date chemicals and specialty product market point of view and market intelligence, using this knowledge to provide short-term commercial analysis or medium-term planning scenarios.
  • Share working knowledge of chemicals and specialty products market fundamentals, manufacturing complex economics, and logistics landscape with colleagues to encourage dialog and strengthen understanding of profitability drivers.
  • Utilize knowledge of asset constraints and market fundamental analysis to identify, develop, and execute on new chemical and specialty product supply opportunities.
  • Develop and implement value-added chemical and specialty products supply strategies to capture price dislocations, and arbitrage opportunities.
  • Engage, develop, and grow a collaborative working relationship with Aramco Trading Americas (ATA) stakeholders to increase access to market opportunities and enhance overall profitability for MOTIVA.
  • Act as primary commercial liaison with ATA, looking at the implementation of synergistic trading strategies to add value to the bottom line of MOTIVA, within the legal framework, tax codes and other applicable compliance requirements.
  • Responsible for reviewing, and challenging when and where appropriate, the weekly/monthly chemicals and specialty products availability and price forecasts provided by ATA as per contract. Provide endorsed price sets to MOTIVA Manufacturing Optimization in support of the weekly re-optimization and manufacturing complex 3-month look-a-head planning process.
  • Communicate chemical feedstocks nominations according to the industry trading cycles and the Commercial agreements with ATA. If needed, issue revised nominations to ATA as per the Commercial Agreements terms.
  • Responsible for MOTIVA chemical and specialty products agreements and any subsequent revisions in accordance with the supply contract(s).
  • Utilize commercial and chemical plant experience to provide advantaged purchase strategies/mandates to Trading.
  • Develop and maintain well-defined scope of work, and network of internal and external contacts across the supply value chain.
  • Coordinate with other Manufacturing Optimization team members to develop processes that better reflect market conditions and chemical and specialty product availabilities in the optimization models that simulate the specific refining and distribution systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining a balanced chemicals and specialty products supply system and optimize all facets of purchases, sales, product substitution, and inventory management.
  • Optimally utilize available logistics to MOTIVA for chemical feedstocks receipts at PAC at the lowest possible acquisition, and chemicals and specialty products deliveries to customer(s) at the highest possible sales price. Identify commercial opportunities for new and improved logistics optionality.
  • Engage in business development activities to find new sources of value from optimization of assets, and utilization of third-party assets for enhancement of supply optionality.
  • Provide advice on market drivers, optimization opportunities, strategy, turnaround planning, critical negotiations of chemical and specialty products and logistics contracts, new IT solutions, and on the conceptualization and implementation of major commercial deals across the company.
  • Assist MOTIVA chemicals and specialty products schedulers with their dealings with ATA, and third-party storage operators to ensure the ratable and reliable delivery of chemicals and specialty products.
  • Develop, document, and implement work processes to strengthen the chemicals and specialty products supply coordination activities with all internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with Motiva Optimization, Risk and Middle/Back Office teams.
  • Develop, and execute risk management strategies when applicable.
  • Work with Manufacturing, Technical Excellence, Strategy and Business Development, Supply to help identify and sponsor margin growth opportunities both capital and non-capital projects.
  • Provide support for monthly business reviews of chemicals and specialty products supply results.
  • Responsible for timely entry of all transactions into the appropriate deal entry system and take primary responsibility for trade accuracy per company policies. Serve as the primary customer contact and owner of "every" negotiated transaction from first trading partner contact to final payment.
  • The Chemicals and Specialty Products Supply Manager should always be looking beyond the routine aspects of the job to help identify technological solutions leading to higher efficiency, meaningful data collection and data management, and process improvement.
  • Maintain a strong Compliance culture and adhere to Motiva Business Principles.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, finance, or related field.
  • 10 years of combined refining operations and economics, scheduling, and supply trading experience.
  • Experience with selecting and placing orders for chemical and specialty product purchases and sales.
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to execute and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to recommend innovative solutions in changing environments.
  • Knowledge of U.S. chemicals production and productions operations, and related logistics.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective industry relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working in team environment both virtual and face to face.
  • Ability to work from One Allen Center and travel to the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree or relevant certifications.
  • Chemical and specialty products supply trading experience.
