Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Clinical Dietitian - PRN proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission to Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with a special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Serves as a nutrition expert and contributing member of the healthcare team. This position may provide nutrition care in a variety of settings, including but not limited to the hospital, outpatient clinical health centers, public outreach clinics, mental health centers , and community-based (e.g. schools, churches) settings.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Provides medical nutrition therapy using the Nutrition Care Process: evaluates nutritional status of the patient; develops care plans following established standards of care; provides proper nutritional counseling to patients and their families for health and disease promotion/prevention and wellness.
• Utilizes prescriptive authority within the regulations of the institution and legislative bodies to order diets, supplements, enteral nutrition and labs
• Utilizes the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam to assist in the diagnosis of malnutrition of the patient in inpatient settings.
• Evaluates for the appropriateness of enteral and parenteral nutrition support and provides the necessary recommendations
• Monitors and provides follow-up plans for nutritional status in accordance with the patient's treatment goals and practice standards. Collaborates with clinical nutrition team to assure patient care needs are met in all areas and for transitions of care in outpatient settings.
• Consults with other health care professionals and members of the interdisciplinary team to manage patient care across the continuum; implements nutrition interventions including communicating the nutrition care plan
• Maintains accuracy in documentation, including NCP format and calculations, reimbursement codes (as applicable) while meeting established productivity metrics and assigned deadlines
• Educates consumers and professional audiences by incorporating a variety of learning strategies, behavioral and readiness change techniques, learning principles, and culturally and literacy sensitive educational media tailored for the client
• Participates in multidisciplinary teams, clinics, dietitian team meetings and case conferences as requested
• Assists in nutritional programming needs at site; recruits appropriate participants; implements programs and delivers content; coordinates multidisciplinary support post program; assists with tracking outcomes for nutrition-based programs
Job Requirements
• Registered Dietitian with active registration, including continuing education, by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
• Certified Dietitian in the state of Indiana
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
• Master's Degree or additional certification strongly preferred
• One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission standards (JCAHO), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), and Indiana State Department of Health regulations as it relates to nutrition care, patient education and safety
• General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, spreadsheet software and other computer programs as required for patient documentation, patient health information and departmental related reports and projects
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in dealing with diverse patient populations and health care team members
