SUMMARY
Bering Straits Development Co., a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Coffee Shop Manager for full-time work in Nome, Alaska. The position will oversee and manage daily operations of our coffee establishment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for excellent customer service, building great teams, driving financial success, and carrying a positive attitude. This position requires great attention to detail and duties must be completed accurately and delivered with high quality in a timely manner. Applicant must be a Bering Straits Native Corporation shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee the daily operations of the establishment, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
- Interview and hire new employees.
- Manage and train baristas.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop environment.
- Manage and create weekly schedules - balancing time off requests and availabilities.
- Place orders through various vendors to maintain inventory levels.
- Manage a team that completes all stocking, production, and additional tasks to ensure product quality, production planning, accuracy, and date sensitive rotation, as well as ensure all spoiled/damaged products are handled per established guidelines.
- Manage changes and additions to point of sale system.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests in a professional and timely manner.
- Create, update, and maintain Drink Menu.
- Plan Marketing events and work with community.
- Assure that all safety and food safety guidelines and requirements are always followed and maintained throughout the entire shop.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with the team to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
- Able to jump into Barista role as needed based on staffing needs.
- Perform additional tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the establishment.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications - 2-3 years retail, customer service, and management experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Food Managers Certification or ability to obtain certification (Required).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
- Minimum High School or GED.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics - Basic financial management skills including budgeting and sales tracking.
- Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines (understanding general maintenance & upkeep).
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work full time, including variable hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and/ or holidays.

Individual will be required to stand or walk for extended periods of time and push or pull heavy equipment or supplies. In addition, squatting, kneeling, sitting, bending, reaching and climbing are also required. May lift or push up to 50 lbs, such as freight, coffee supplies, boxes, etc.
DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS - This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWork Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The job is performed in a coffee shop setting with exposure to hot liquids and requires extensive use of coffee and espresso machinery. Exposure to hot water and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Occasional use of computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern coffee shop setting. Occasional travel may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - This position supervises employees
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORSAs a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
