Job Summary
The Counselor will primarily be responsible for providing personal counseling to students, facilitating workshops for students, staff, and faculty, and providing consultation with faculty and staff on students' mental health concerns. In addition, and as appropriate, the Counselor will connect students directly to vetted community agencies and resources for further assistance. The individual will also guide students to other institutional support programs. For example, the Counselor will collaborate with the Student Outreach and Engagement Office to provide holistic services for students. The Counselor reports to the Director of Student Advocacy Programs/Counselor.
Job Duties
* Provide personal counseling, especially for students experiencing social and emotional difficulties
* Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and resources that support the social and mental health needs of individuals
* Develop and maintain relationships with institutional programs that support the basic needs of students
* Refer students to community and campus resources as necessary
* Provide consultation to faculty and staff on the early identification of students in distress or crisis
* Provide workshop, class, and staff presentations on a variety of mental health and wellness-related topics
* Assist with the development of drug and alcohol abuse prevention, sexual violence prevention, and suicide prevention educational programs to meet federal and state requirements
* Encourage positive behaviors through promotional campaigns and support services
* Assist with providing on-site supervision for graduate-level counseling and social work interns
* Serve on Northeast State's Care Team
* Maintain confidentiality of client information, including client records, in accordance with professional licensing standards and FERPA
