Department Information

Learning a second language or other foreign languages is a rich and fascinating process involving linguistic, psychological, cultural, and social dimensions. Our department is dedicated to the study of the structure, acquisition, and use of nonnative language, both in the classroom and in contexts offering direct contact with native speakers.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of day-to-day operations, which include analyzing current and future operations and providing recommendations and innovative changes as needed, including graduate admission.
  • Provides training to support staff on departmental operations, as well as monitoring their work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Answers questions regarding departmental and university operations, policies and procedures from faculty, staff, as well as internal and external constituents.
  • Resolves any issues that may arise regarding operational procedures and policies.
  • Oversees departmental program and project activities, including TEPAIC coordination, conferences, special programs, graduate events, and guest speakers.
  • Collaborates with the Registrar concerning the preparation of the schedule of classes specifically the accuracy of courses offered and instructors of record for the department.
  • Monitors class enrollments.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and creates departmental reports and materials.
  • Acts as department Payroll Processor and HRMS e-doc processor.
  • Coordinates web changes and updates.
  • Fosters an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality within all areas of the department.
  • Responds to persons needing assistance from the department.
  • Coordinates faculty recruitment, orientation, leaves, and annual reviews.
General Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with team members to develop program objectives and create policies to meet them.
  • Coordinates program operation with all collaborative units.
  • Monitors progress and maintains all necessary data bases.
  • Actively recruits program participants and researches new venues and methods of recruitment.
  • May provide guidance to support and temporary staff and coordinates workflow for the program.
  • Researches available grants and assists creating funding proposals that further advance support of the program.
  • Writes grant reports.
  • Administers program budgets.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$43,000 - $44,000 per year
