Your Role

As a Scale-Up Engineer, you will collaborate closely with the Laboratory, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial groups. Your primary focus will be on new process development activities, ensuring the successful transition from lab-scale to commercial-scale production. Job responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with chemists to screen synthesis routes and evaluate various unit operations for scale-up.
  • Serve as the technical lead for stage-gated projects.
  • Lead Design Hazard reviews to ensure safety, health, and environmental compliance.
  • Prepare comprehensive project proposals, including detailed scope descriptions, PFDs, P&IDs, cost estimates, concept drawings, and project timelines.
  • Work closely with vendors and contractors on design and fabrication during project execution.
  • Proactively document results and deliver oral presentations on project status.
  • Manage intellectual assets related to projects.
  • Track project spending and identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or other Engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in a scale-up function.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other Engineering discipline OR Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other Life Science discipline.
  • Experience in design and construction of pilot plants.
  • Proficiency in operating analytical instruments such as FTIR, GC, ICPMS, Raman, etc.
  • Expertise in handling hazardous chemicals, including organometallic materials, toxic, and air-sensitive compounds.
  • Track record of leading process improvement initiatives and contributing to new product development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Characteristics such as being hardworking, innovative, resourceful, and a self-starter.
