Job Description

DevSecOps Engineer - REMOTE Please note that Authority to Operate and FISMA experience are required for this position.

Why you want to work at Flexion:

We're looking for a DevSecOps Engineer with an unwavering passion for working in autonomous, self-directed teams to build complex systems using lean, agile mindsets-this means delivering incremental business value with each sprint and enabling options at all scales. In this position, you will support a modernization project.

At Flexion (an agile software company that's been delivering excellence for over 24 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively-this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (Analysis, Development, Design) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team's success, which mirrors the company's overall low bureaucracy structure.

What the job looks like:

In this role, you must possess excellent problem-solving skills and technical knowledge with a strong aptitude for appreciating the focus, scope, and impact of your work in a much wider and forward-looking software landscape. We engage in all-day interdisciplinary pairing and mobbing in a virtual office. It is important that we continuously integrate and shift security and testing left. This team engages in fully transparent, open source development.

Why we want to hire you:

You understand that "the most important rule in development is always to do the simplest thing that could possibly work." You can design small pieces as you go, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. You welcome change as a positive thing (instead of viewing it as "rework") and never look at anything you deliver as "final." You understand when "good enough" really IS good enough, without ever compromising on the overall product quality. You understand that a focus on team health, communications and problem-solving are what creates a good working team.

You have:

  • 6+ years of years of combined Application Development/DevSecOps/Infrastructure Automation experience
  • Excellent DevSecOps practices and principles
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud platforms
  • Experience writing and implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Optimized CI/CD pipelines including security integration
  • Implemented Cloud security (AWS and/or Azure Gov)
  • Created and maintained FISMA compliant systems (moderate or higher)
  • Federal Authority to Operate (ATO) process management experience
  • Led threat modeling and security improvements
  • Automated of security processes
  • Performed Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) remediation

Nice to have knowledge and experience:
  • Experience with GitOps/DevOps engineering
  • Proficiency in cloud platform management (AWS and Azure Gov)
  • Strong background in web application security
  • Ability to lead security exercises and facilitate threat modeling
  • Familiarity with "shift-left" security integration in development processes
  • Understanding of data security principles

At Flexion, we live by these principles:
  • Speak openly and honestly with your colleagues and clients about problems and proposed solutions
  • Welcome and handle changing requirements and priorities with little or no warning
  • Collaborate online in small groups about 50% of the time
  • Encourage simple and minimal solutions that keep options open
  • Expect and vocally advocate for quality first
  • Learn new practices and techniques as the situation demands
  • Ensure the teams develop demonstrable software every week or two
  • Do what needs to be done to deliver the product or project without ego or attitude
  • Dig deep to find the root causes of problems so we can create the right solutions
  • Relentlessly improve yourself, your team, and your processes
