Position Description
This position is open to TTUHSC SON full-time faculty only!
Acts as a representative of the Dean and administrative officer responsible for day-to-day operations of the Lubbock campus. Oversees academic policies and programs by performing essential duties and responsibilities personally or through subordinate supervisors. Serves at the discretion of the Dean and is responsible for the executive management of a wide range of administrative matters for the school. Acting under the guidance of the Dean, provides leadership and direction for strategic planning and change management initiatives, project management, and administrative policy development and implementation. Supervises clerical staff (in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance) and professional employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the SON/TTUHSC policies and applicable laws.

Major/Essential Functions
Administration
- Represents the Office of the Dean on assigned committees/councils, to external organizations, institutions and agencies, campus-wide bodies and alumni.
- Serves as liaison and administrative representative for the SON in the absence of the Dean.
- Oversees daily academic operations of the Lubbock campus, providing input into the use of fiscal and physical resources.
- Collaborates with Associate Deans to support academic and faculty support services, such as orientation, support for professional development, online educational support services, admissions and enrollment, and wellness and retention services.
- Communicates with SON/HSC administration, faculty, staff and others, as appropriate, about school policies.
- Collaborates with Dean, Regional Deans, other SON leadership, faculty and staff to plan, implement and evaluate strategies for successful operation of the school, consistent with the SON Strategic Plan and aligned with the SON/TTUHSC mission and vision.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, Regional Deans and/or Academic Associate Deans to:
- Communicate with current and prospective students regarding their status in the programs.
- Implement strategic enrollment planning, manage student recruitment planing for the SON, building a pipeline of prospective students and identifying pathway strategies for recruitment efforts, i.e., articulation.
- Serve as an intermediary in academic grievances within the school.
- Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Dean for Finance and/or Academic Associate Deans to ensure programmatic needs are met.
- Ensures currency of SON Catalog (undergraduate and graduate programs).
- Collaborates with SON Office of Outcomes and Evaluation to:
- Promote compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing regulations, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation standards and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation standards in conjunction with the TTUHSC Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Coordinate program and school data acquisition and reporting for state, regional, and national organizations as requested.
- Support continuous quality improvement plan (i.e., Total Program Evaluation) and processes including academic program evaluations, data collection and analysis, and provision of summary reports to the appropriate education committees/individuals/university offices/accrediting and certification bodies and other external entities.
- Collaborates with Regional Deans to promote SON engagement in the local community and interprofessional collaborations with stakeholders and councils to enhance the promotion of the SON/TTUHSC.
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research to promote the scholarly productivity of faculty.
- Collaborates with the Office of the Dean and Programmatic Associate Deans to:
- Negotiate, develop and maintain faculty practice agreements with participating agencies in consultation with the faculty member and the Nursing Income Plan guidelines.
- Negotiate, coordinate, evaluate and assure compliance with clinical agency agreements.
- Oversees faculty travel procedures and requests for funding, providing funding recommendations to the Dean and Professional Development Council
Teaching
- Teaches at the undergraduate or graduate level depending upon needs and administrative priorities.
- Carries an appropriate faculty teaching load reduced to accommodate administrative responsibilities.
Scholarship
- Participates in scholarly activities at a level consistent with rank.
- Mentors early career faculty in scholarly activities.
Service
- Serves on SON/TTUHSC committees as outlined in SON Bylaws or as appointed.
- Serves as a resource person for faculty and students.
- Serves as a mentor and role model in community and professional service activities.

Required Qualifications
- Serves as full-time faculty member at TTUHSC SON.
- Has an earned Doctorate in Nursing or related field and Master of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited university.
- Holds an unencumbered RN license to practice in the state of Texas.
- Holds national certification in nursing education.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in a nationally accredited baccalaureate or higher degree program in nursing.
- Five (5) years of prior administrative experience in a nationally accredited baccalaureate and/or higher degree program in nursing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, faculty, staff, students and members of the profession of nursing and other business entities. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information through strong writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to solve problems and plan initiatives. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with various abstract and concrete variables.
- Experience leading curriculum changes, quality improvement and continuous improvement.
- Experience in managing groups of personnel including interviewing, hiring, evaluating and counseling, and terminating personnel.
- Experience teaching academic nursing (face-to-face, online, or clinical courses) at the baccalaureate or higher level with at least two years of academic administrative experience in nursing.
- A substantial record of scholarship justifying appointment at the rank of Professor.
- Appropriate membership and active participation in professional organizations at state/national levels.
- Ability to lead as well as to function as a strong collaborator on interprofessional teams.
