Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is the operational core of Stanford University's physical campus. Department Introduction:

The Architectural Trades are an integral part of maintaining and improving the structures on campus. These shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

  • Emergency Response
  • Routine Maintenance
  • Remodel Design Services
  • Repairs & Alterations to Existing Structures

All skilled craftspeople, many with decades of experience on campus, these technicians are a vital resource for anyone planning a remodeling project in their building.

Job Purpose:

  • Under the direction of a lead or supervisor, employees in this classification provide quality glass repair/replacement, troubleshoot and repair ADA equipment and mechanical door opening devices.
  • Work in a timely, cost-effective manner in all parts of the university.
  • Employees may work alone, and/or as a member of a crew. Work may be spot checked while in progress or inspected upon completion.

  • Paint as needed, utilizing acceptable industry standard techniques, for
  • Replace broken glass.
  • Provide timely, accurate and organized status of job assignments via computer program and/or electronic devices.
  • Estimate and report to Lead/shop supervisor the costs for potential jobs as requested.
  • Participate in the ordering process as needed.
  • Communicate all phases of projects with clients, leads and supervisors.
  • Maintain and care for all Stanford issued equipment.
  • Adhere to standard safety practices and proper safety equipment to carry out work assignments in a safe manner.

Education & Experience:

  • High School or GED or a combination of equivalent education and work experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be skilled in the recognition and use of tools, materials, and equipment used in the glazing trade.
  • Experience in the repair of historic windows.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to make accurate measurements.
  • Basic computer knowledge of work order and time entry.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions and communicate those instructions to others.
  • Ability to accurately order materials

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license

Physical Requirements*:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License and drive day and night.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 80 feet to erect and move scaffolds and ladders.
  • Must be able to operate all aerial equipment.
  • Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stop/squat, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, light/fine grasping. Use a telephone, use a telephone, write by hand, operate hand and/or foot controls, and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40lbs.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix.
  • Rarely perform desk-based computer tasks, and/or sort/file paperwork or parts.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to wear appropriate uniform.
  • May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including
  • Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to noise >80dB, and/or temperature extremes.
  • Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Standards:

  • When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
  • Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.

The expected pay range for this position is $45.64 (Step 1) to $55.19 (Step 10) per hour.Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
