Job Description:
Position Summary:
Under administrative supervision from the Chief of Investigations, Investigators work collaboratively with other Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit staff and other state and federal agencies to investigate allegations of fraud in the Medicaid program and/or abuse or neglect in licensed care facilities. They perform all phases of an investigation within the jurisdiction of the MFPAU from the central office and in the field. Statewide travel required.
Essential Job Functions:
Typical tasks include collection of evidence, conducting interviews, taking statements, extensive report writing, performance of basic analysis of Medicaid providers' billings to detect fraudulent schemes and abnormal patterns, preparation of analytical charts, operation of investigative equipment, surveillance, delivering subpoenas, assisting the audit and legal staff with case development and problem solving, and testifying in court.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Law enforcement certification requirement. Ability to be commissioned as a Deputy State Sheriff required.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous investigative experience strongly preferred.CFE designation preferred. Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a major in criminal justice, law enforcement, police science, accounting, finance or business, and a minimum of one year of experience in white-collar investigations preferred. Substantial experience may be substituted for college degree. Experience working with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge of relevant white-collar law enforcement or criminal investigation techniques preferred. Experience involving application of state statutes, agency rules and regulations and court/administrative hearings process helpful. Preference will be given to candidates who are Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) or who possess relevant accounting and law enforcement/investigation experience.
