A DAY IN THE LIFE

Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, and toxicology testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.

Our Orange, CA facility is currently seeking a Full-Time Laboratory Analyst II to join our Wet Chemistry Department.

Reporting to the Group Leader, this role supports the Wet Chemistry team. As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
  • Conduct in a variety of wet chemical analysis of water or soil samples using a variety of lab methods: alkalinity, conductivity (EC), pH, color, odor, moisture, settlable solids, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), volatile suspended solids (VSS), residual chlorine, turbidity, oil & grease, oil & grease with silica cleanup,cyanide, sulfides, BTU, corrosivity, Ferrous iron, flash point, ignitability, MBAS, phenols, ortho and total phosphates, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, BOD, COD, salinity, hexavalent chromium, and TOC-Walkley Black and TOC-combustion.
  • Prepare reagents and standards needed for various laboratory analysis
  • Perform supply inventory and purchasing
  • Organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
  • Record results of analysis, note unusual test results, and perform additional tests if necessary to confirm results
  • Perform basic laboratory analyses within specific protocols;
  • Complete, accurate records and compile data;
  • Be flexible in order to work with and provide support for a number of people;
  • Trouble-shoot collection and data systems.
  • Calculate and interpret test results.
  • Compile and maintain complete and accurate records of sample preparation and analysis.
  • Cleaning of laboratory glassware
  • Maintaining clean laboratory areas
  • Calibrating equipment and maintaining organized records
  • Instrument preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Sample retrieval and disposal
  • Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Assisting the Group Leaders and analysts in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and parts for instrumentation
  • Conduct secondary data review for all performed tests
  • Coach and Mentor Laboratory Technicians
  • Comply with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Comply with Enthalpy's Health and Safety Plan
  • Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant lab experience
  • Experience in environmental, drinking water or wastewater laboratory.
  • Experience with UV-Vis, TOC analyzers (Shimadzu TOC-L or equivalent), Distillation Systems and Automated Flow Injection Analyzers (LACHAT QuikChem or equivalent)
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and department heads
  • Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
  • Knowledge in the theory and chemistry of testing
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to train and coach staff
  • Good organizational skills and strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of QA/QC controls protocols and capability to implement as needed.
  • Knowledge in sample preservation techniques and be familiar with Florida Department of Environmental Protection Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Proficiency working with computers and various types of software, including Microsoft products. Skill in the use of laboratory and office software.
  • Ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position
  • Knowledge in compliance monitoring and analytical requirements.
  • Knowledge in laboratory accreditation (TNI) Standard as it pertains to environmental laboratory systems.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures, including safety protocols;
  • Knowledge of drinking water and wastewater treatment processes; and/or environmental monitoring;
  • Follow oral and written instructions and directives proficiently;
  • Ability to use small office equipment, computers, and highly technical computer applications.
  • Knowledge of laboratory methods, procedures, equipment, and NELAC standards.
