Posting Summary:The Morales-Williams lab at the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory seeks a laboratory manager to lead water chemistry analyses, coordinate and conduct limnological field work on small lakes and Lake Champlain in Vermont, and contribute to training undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory and field methods. Train undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory and field safety, laboratory methods, and instrument use. Maintain field and laboratory data and code quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) pipelines.
Field research activities include: coordinate and contribute to field research activities on small inland lakes and Lake Champlain. Schedule vehicle and vessel use. Field activities include instrument deployment, calibration, and maintenance (data buoy, multi-parameter sondes, data loggers), chemical, physical, and biological sample collection.
Bachelor's degree in limnology, stream ecology, environmental chemistry or related discipline with a minimum of two year's experience in water chemistry analysis and standard limnological methods. Expertise required in analytical chemistry for water quality analysis. Demonstrated expertise in water chemistry analysis, limnological field techniques, data processing and QA/QC using R software, ability to work effectively and collaborate with a diverse team, and an aptitude for creative problem solving.
Desirable Qualifications:Master's degree in limnology, stream ecology, environmental chemistry or related discipline.
Anticipated Pay Range:$28.20/hr (approximately $55,000/year)
Other Information:This is currently a two-year grant funded position, with a goal to extend funding. After two years, this position is contingent on continued funding.
About the Morales-Williams Lab:
This lab group integrates phytoplankton community ecology and biogeochemistry to understand lake ecosystem response to global change. Ongoing projects investigate the influence of stochastic environmental processes on algal community assembly and carbon cycling. We operate the water chemistry laboratory at the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Lab.
