Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Cafeteria and Facilities team and has an opportunity for a Manager, Cafeteria Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of cafeteria foodservice operations. This role ensures efficient budget management, exceptional food quality, and fosters positive employee and customer relations. Works closely with staff to ensure professional service, high-quality food, and a welcoming dining experience. The position involves menu planning, recipe development, updating nutritional information, and maintaining a world-class corporate kitchen operation, while ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Compensation

$83,280 - $99,000
Exempt Grade 16
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What you'll do

Foodservice Oversight:
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the cafeteria area, including proper food preparation and maintaining correct temperatures.
  • Ensure dishes are prepared and presented in an aesthetically pleasing and high-quality manner.
  • Calculates daily production of menu items based on historical sales data to control waste as well as determining recipes based on production needs of food on hand.
Menu Development:
  • Regularly develop and incorporate new dishes to enhance the menu and meet dietary and taste preferences.
  • Ensures correct serving portions for all dishes while also providing associated nutritional information.
Operational Leadership:
  • Develop and document processes and procedures for cafeteria operations.
  • Lead and guide the café team, ensuring ongoing professional development and training.
Financial Management:
  • Oversee accounting practices related to cafeteria operations.
  • Control spending to ensure the operation remains within budget limitations by implementing rebate programs and purchasing incentives.
  • Monitor food, beverage, and sales production data for operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop pricing strategies for employees and external customers, aligning with BCBSKS corporate goals.
Vendor Management:
  • Oversee the selection of vendors, bidding processes, and management of associated contracts to ensure the best prices and quality for supplies.
Equipment and Supplies:
  • Monitor kitchen equipment quality, ensuring all equipment is clean and functioning properly.
  • Provide capital purchase recommendations appropriately.
Technology:
  • Utilize and manage café software systems to track inventory, sales, and other operational metrics.

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in food management or a related field.
  • In lieu of degree, minimum of 4 years' progressive, relevant food service experience.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Strong leadership skills with a desire to develop and lead a team to success.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various groups and departments within the organization.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including MS Office suite and food service software systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to ensure smooth operation and teamwork.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, and exert well-paced mobility for periods of up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Must have the ability to frequently lift objects weighing 10-20 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Subject to working in conditions with wet floors, hot foods, varying temperatures, and steam.

Bonus if you have

  • 3+ years of experience managing a large food service operation preferred.
