Overview:

Directs the production departments for all Champion Teamwear products. Manages the daily activities of, and provide direction to, the leadership of functional Operations and Distribution departments. Collaborates with art, and sales departments to meet or exceed quality requirements and customer expectations. Maintains team member discipline and morale, enhances productivity, maximizes throughput, reduces costs, and ensures a safe workplace for all team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements company and departmental strategies to support manufacturing and overall Champion Teamwear strategies and goals.
  • Researches and evaluates new equipment based on price, capability, and ROI. Negotiates most favorable price and terms for equipment purchases.
  • Assists in time/cost studies and makes recommendations to ensure that Champion Teamwear pricing is competitive and associated production departments meet and establish production efficiency levels.
  • Assists in the development and tests of ERP updates as required. Leads process change and system implementation initiatives.
  • Stays current with operations, sales, finance, human resources, and supply chain functions and initiatives; communicates initiatives with department managers.
  • Develops and designs production floor layouts to ensure optimum workflow and safety.
  • Provide vision and direction to all functional areas
  • Develop daily, weekly and monthly key production/productivity measurements
  • Set and distribute for key measurements and communicate to all associates
  • Establish quality and performance teams consisting of associates and supervisors for key problem areas
  • Set expectations of functional departments to minimize work queues
  • Set improvement goals with the functional managers and monitor results versus goals
  • Ensures art and manufacturing adherence to all critical dates on company time and action calendar.
  • Directs operations and warehouse department leaders.
  • Continuously determines staffing requirements and builds hiring plans to support the annual sales plan. Establishes efficient staff levels and conducts interviews as needed to meet staffing needs.
  • Manages work-flow, individual workloads, and development of staff to include performance management and training. Ensures direct reports meet operational goals throughout the year.
  • Ensures newly hired team members or transfers complete position specific training and development plan. Mentors staff by coordinating and providing personal development experiences and job skills training.
  • Conducts annual evaluations with team members as well as follow-up on discipline of team members within the department.
  • Calculates equipment requirements to support the build plans.
  • Completes position specific training plan, and engages in continuous development utilizing a developmental plan.
  • Collaborates regularly with R&D, Production Art and Development, and Supply Chain Management on efficiencies, process, research, development, and implementation.

Budgets:

  • Develops and implements annual department budgets to include annual capital equipment financial budget. Tracks monthly department financial results vs. plan. Reviews financial variances with upper management and makes recommendations to correct variance.
  • Review with functional managers the development of budget-based unit plan analyzing and adjusting to constraints and opportunities.
  • Seek approval of budgets from Accounting providing supporting documentation and historical data.
  • Review with functional managers and verify monthly budgets for accuracy
  • Review with functional managers and analyze monthly budgets adjusting as necessary
  • Responsible for Managers meeting departmental budget goals

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Builds and maintains relationships with K-State manufacturing program though intern development, and communications with professors and class presentations and tours.
  • Supports other Champion Teamwear departments as needed.
  • Occasional travel to supplier or sister companies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or 5+ years' related experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment
  • Working knowledge of embroidery and screen print processes.
  • Working knowledge of distribution and logistics processes
  • Strong computer skills, working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), experience in Imagine a plus.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, written, communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Management and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks and reports within deadlines.
  • Ability to think analytically and plan strategically to meet the needs of the business.
  • Ability to see the big picture while managing numerous details.
  • Must be an inspiring team player and partner.
  • Must thrive is a very fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects concurrently.
