SUMMARY:

The Time-Based Media Production & Post-Production Manager is responsible for managing, monitoring, maintaining, and providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of the time-based media facilities within the Department of Art & Art History. They will provide consultation, train, perform equipment and technique demonstrations in and out of class on a variety of complex subjects that include audio and video editing, animation, video production, audio/video synthesis, motion picture film scanning/digitization, audio recording/mastering, and lighting set-ups. They will manage student workers to help facilitate the needs of the many time-based media labs. These areas include the sound recording studio and post-production suite, audio/video editing suites, animation studio, time-based media classroom, and field work out of the building. The position manages and demonstrates the usage of the production studio (Keller Gallery) and black box theater as well as production equipment across animation, film, sound, video lab spaces.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Year:

  • Supervise open lab time, be present and available for student aid, and manage the use of the sound production and recording studio, audio and video editing suites, animation studio, animation/film/video screening room, and time-based media classrooms both in and out of class time.
  • Manage the maintenance, setup, and testing of equipment and processes in time-based media facilities to ensure students have working equipment as needed. In coordination with the faculty area head of time-based media, the Manager of Operations and Labs and Information Services, to test and maintain the compatibility of TBM equipment with all software updates across a variety of software and computers to maintain functional production labs, submit work requests to University facilities for building repairs and to SpiderTechNet for computer repairs within the time-based media facilities. 15%
  • Develop and offer on-going, scheduled workshops to faculty, staff, and/or students in the use of production equipment, post-production software and processing tools, and the sound recording studio. 15%
  • Coordinate with faculty and the Manager of Operations and Labs to research equipment, software, and supplies for the time-based media production and post-production facilities so that classes, faculty, and staff may use these spaces at will. Facilitate and collaborate directly with Information Services on computer replacement, set-up, software imaging, and ongoing troubleshooting.
  • Hire, schedule, and manage student employees in the time-based media production and post-production facilities.
  • Manage, train, or assist with installing, presenting, and promoting student and faculty work in departmental spaces and other spaces across campus (examples include the annual open house, open studio event, faculty and student exhibitions, film and video screenings/programs, and projects in the Carole Weinstein International Center).
Summer Months:
  • After spring semester planning with the Manager of Operations and Labs and the faculty area head for time-based media, summer projects may include, but are not limited to: equipment and software education and maintenance; assist or train students and faculty in the time-based media facilities; Development of student workshops for the academic year; and recruiting and training student workers. Identify new policies that will foster a productive learning and teaching experience for students and faculty.
  • Update and expand technical knowledge, optimize media workflow, and, in collaboration with the timed-based media faculty area head, conduct ongoing research on emerging production and post-production equipment and defining best practice processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced knowledge across analogue and digital animation, film, sound, and video production and post-production equipment, advanced knowledge and experience in recording studio operation, management, and set-up; software applications including Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Ableton Live, ProTools, and Logic; analogue/digital conversion and capture; audio/video synthesis; and strong problem solving and multitasking skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

MFA in time-based media or equivalent experience (3 years minimum) or experience working as a technician in an animation/film/sound/video art environment.

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • The person in this position will be expected to work outside of regular hours to support evening courses (when/if necessary) and to offer technical support for evening film screenings and exhibition installs and events.
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range: $47,154.00 to $62,483.00 annually)
