Managing Associate General Counsel, Sr (Deputy General Counsel) - Data Governance, Information Security and Privacy
Location
Successful candidate must reside within 50 miles of an Elevance Health office location, and able to commute on-site at least 3 days per week.
Summary
This is a key role on the Elevance Health Digital and Corporate Enterprise Legal Team serving as a leader managing and developing a best-in-class, enterprise-wide data governance, information security and privacy legal team. This role will report directly to the VP, Digital and Corporate Enterprise Legal and is a member of the Digital and Corporate Enterprise Legal Leadership Team. This leader will partner closely with business clients to understand their strategic objectives to complete complex matters in a fast-paced, collaborative and results driven environment.

Position Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and leadership to support the provision of legal advice supporting data protection, cybersecurity, and privacy.
- Drive an aligned approach for legal matters involving data protection, data privacy, and data licensing to support the Company's most important business strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Lead and design processes to manage data rights, privacy, cybersecurity, and data access and sharing guidelines.
- Work collaboratively across the organization to provide legal support for the cybersecurity and data protection programs (including legal support for regulatory and audit functions, as needed), and establish appropriate relationships with responsible members of relevant groups, such as Risk, Information Security, Marketing and Communications and Ethics, Privacy and Compliance, to ensure coordinated and appropriate responses to incidents, issues, and opportunities in the cybersecurity space including implementation of robust security measures and risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide advice and assistance to executives and management on corporate, legal and regulatory matters within the scope of the attorney's job.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of legal professionals.
Position Requirements
- JD from an ABA accredited law school and current license to practice law.
- 15+ years of legal practice experience with a focus on information security, cybersecurity, and data privacy matters in a technology-related company, law firm, or health care setting.
- Significant technical background assessing legal risks associated with data governance, information security and privacy practices and developing strategies to mitigate potential liabilities.
- Extensive experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts with clients, vendors, and partners related to data governance, information security, cybersecurity, and privacy matters.
- Deep understanding of relevant laws and regulations, with demonstrated ability to stay up to date with industry standards related to data governance, information security and cybersecurity. Significant experience advising and supporting development and implementation of policies and procedures to align with these legal requirements and guidelines.
- Ability to handle and manage legal work associated with complex, novel, high-value enterprise information security initiatives with broad organizational impact and moderate to high level of risk.
- Deep experience with data protection and privacy laws that require appropriate handling and safeguarding of personal and sensitive data. Experience in health care information security a plus. A legal background in data and digital transactions, privacy regulations, and cybersecurity.
- Expertise in international privacy and data protection laws and regulations, particularly regarding cross border transfers.
- Experience with digital and new media technology privacy and cybersecurity issues in the online and mobile environment.
- Experience with privacy and cybersecurity issues in business transactions and contracts.
- Experience with the advancement and deployment of Artificial Intelligence.
- Knowledge of privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines relevant to the healthcare industry.
- Demonstrated experience in providing legal support and strategic advice to senior and executive-level management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively across various levels and business functions.
- A track record of leading, mentoring, and developing strong legal teams and growing talent.
- Extensive experience managing outside counsel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively present information to and advise senior management.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences- Experience at a complex and highly regulated company is preferred.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $215,000 to $388,500
(Locations: California; Colorado; Nevada; New York; Washington State; Jersey City, NJ)
