Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer (ME) will work in our global new product development (NPD) team that is responsible for modular data center infrastructure solutions. The ME will be responsible for developing and releasing integrated sub-assemblies in new product development programs and customer projects. These assemblies include Vertiv and third-party equipment, HVAC, fire detection and suppression, power distribution, cable management, air containment and various mechanical parts. The engineer will work closely with cross functional team members and provides production support during factory integration. Will help assess and find solutions that positively impact production and quality, participates and leads design reviews with customers, engineering team members and other internal work teams. This position will also support new business inquiries and development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Select components that satisfy NPD and project requirements.
  • Create conceptual and detailed 3D models of integrated subassembly systems from both 2D and 3D data.
  • Document design, material, and finish of mechanical parts - sheet metal assembly focus.
  • Research and implementation of new materials and assembly technics.
  • Collaborate with other Vertiv engineers and cross functions to design the best solutions.
  • Create, maintain, and review bill of materials (BOMS) with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing during production and testing.
  • Support Pre-Sales Team in solution development, quotations, solution presentations to customers.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision from lead project engineer(s) and/or manager.
  • Manages multiple ongoing projects and switch tasks when situations arise.
  • Work directly with Procurement and material vendors on component sourcing and selection.
  • Participate in and lead group discussions.
  • May oversee and advise on the design and CAD work of others as needed.
Requirements:
  • Technical or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years in similar position
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and 2D drafting required, preferred in Inventor.
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T) techniques.
  • Experience creating and sustaining a structured bills of materials in PLM and ERP systems required.
  • Ability to read, interpret and produce mechanical construction drawings.
  • Interpreting customer specification requirements
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Demonstrates excellent listening and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Works independently and is highly motivated to initiate and accept new challenges.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Exhibits appropriate attributes in all aspects of performance, demeanor, accuracy, results orientation, planning, effective information management.
