Music Adjunct - General

Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5 credit class

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Department: Music - SSH Division

Reports To: Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities

This is for a Music Adjunct Faculty position that will teach OC's various Music History, Theory, Fundamentals, Appreciation classes. We are seeking someone who can teach in person as well as teach remotely, should circumstances demand that modality. The position entails the teaching of course(s) in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of class offerings, course outlines designed by full-time faculty in the discipline, course syllabi, and any other discipline and/or division guidelines. The position includes the preparation of instructional materials, grading, and maintenance of accurate records for students. Adjunct faculty are also required to provide class syllabi to students and the submission of requested documents and materials to the division office as needed. Essential Functions

  • Teach assigned to Music courses according to the schedule developed, following discipline and course outline guidelines
  • Prepare for all instruction and instructional materials and grading for students in assigned classes
  • Submit records and requested documents for the assigned courses as scheduled and requested by the discipline area, division office, and college.
  • Must be willing and able to teach face-to-face instruction as needed at the Bremerton, Shelton and Poulsbo campuses as needed, and be able to teach the assigned classes remotely as needed.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music (or Music Education) required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience teaching Music, including to adults
  • College teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Graduate level knowledge of Music, including Music History, Appreciation, and Theory.
  • Ability to teach college level Music courses to a wide range of students (educational preparation levels)
  • Effectively teach and support a diverse student population, including students whose native language is not English, those whose origins may not be in the United States, as well as a wide-range of ages (Running Start - High School students, traditional college age, and beyond)
  • Special Skills

  • Foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation.
  • Demonstrate success working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of diverse cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals.
  • Appropriately incorporate the use of computer information technology in the delivery of instruction (ability to teach various modalities of face-to-face, hybrid and online preferred).
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment, to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment in all classes.

    Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
    Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

    This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.
    Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur.     Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire. Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement. Adjuncts are not initially eligible for benefits upon hire but could qualify for the following.
