NWTC is seeking to build a pool of part-time instructors. Part-Time Instructors are an integral part of the College's staff, helping us provide all learners with the highest quality learning opportunities when, where and how they want it.

HOURS: Hours vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.

SALARY: $45 per class hour contracted

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training or education and four (4) years' experience in the making, selling, marketing, etc. of the craft/art product or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in related field and two years (4,000 hours) of successful, directly related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and direct work experience.
    • Educational equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling 7 years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor's degree
    • At a minimum, occupational experience must have occurred at least 1 year within the last 5 years. 1 year of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last 5 years

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing the instruction process, associated curriculum review and development, and student advising within the area of instruction.
  • Responsible for instructing artisan classes aimed at both teaching individuals to learn a new artisan skill or supplement their income.
  • Areas of instruction to be covered could include (but not limited to): Woodturning-Basic: course provides the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge, skills, and processes of motivation, safety policies, woodturning stock, wood lathe, accessory equipment, cutting tools, catch/dig-in cuts, spindle turning setup, and product development. Woodturning - Intermediate: woodturning lathe, shop safety practices, woodturning stock, cutting tools, bandsaw, sharpening, chucking, bowl turning setup and product development. Woodturning-Advanced: turning bowls, tool use, wood blanks, rough-turning profile, rough-hollowing, completing the profile, completing the inside, completing the base, sanding, and finishing the product. Woodturning-Product Development: safety/shop arrangements, product choices, equipment use, wood selection, gluing, spindle turning, faceplate turning, sanding/finishes, and overview of American Association of Woodturners and the marketplace.
  • Must be willing to commit to all required course contact hours, for each class assignment as scheduled.
  • Responsible for maintaining curriculum rigor in alignment with state requirements.
  • Required to manage the instructional process, to include but not limited to: course preparation, student attendance records, student assessment, grading, and must be accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time (to include electronic communications as well as in-person meetings).
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements.
  • Work effectively with faculty and Artisan Center staff members.
