Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing the Indiana University Kokomo Nursing Foundation Simulation Laboratory facilities and functions. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Pre-Licensure Track BSN Program.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Coordinates with the Nursing faculty regarding skills lab times and other lab activities to ensure lab space, equipment and supply needs are met.
- Staffs and maintains general operating condition of the lab and its training equipment including advanced learning patient simulators and other simulation equipment.
- Sets up the Nursing lab with appropriate equipment and supplies for each of the skill labs and provide a safe learning environment.
- Manages and maintains the Learning Lab office.
- Confers and assists faculty/students with lab related issues and needs, phone, filing, data processing, and record keeping of lab data.
- Monitors supply use and order necessary supplies for the Nursing lab to ensure adequacy for the classes and maximum cost benefit.
- Manages the continuous purchase order requisition process, from requisitioning supplies and equipment to the receiving and inventorying including department contact for those purchases.
- Instructs students and faculty on newly acquired equipment and conduct refresher training on various lab equipment.
- Maintains and catalogs department inventory (non-capital and capital); assist with biennial physical inventory of capital equipment.
- Provides resource assistance to faculty and nursing students.
- May assist with skills evaluations and simulations under the supervision of experienced nursing faculty as available.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- Associate's degree in nursing
WORK EXPREIENCE
Required- Nursing experience or professional preparation as a nurse
LICSNES AND CERTIFICATES
Required- Registered nurse in the state of Indiana
SKILLS
Required
- Medical skills, understanding of equipment and technology used in the nursing area
- Working knowledge of lab facilities, equipment, supplies, and services
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices used in lab settings
- Knowledge of processes for maintaining and/or repairing lab equipment
- Computer skills and knowledge of data processing software
Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to position self to move at lower levels. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. A person in this role must be an excellent communicator. This position also requires fine motor skills The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
