Description

The Humanities Collegiate Division and the Department of Music at the University of Chicago invite applications for part-time Lecturers during the 2024-25 academic year.

The selected candidate will have part-time teaching opportunities for courses that count toward fulfilling requirements in the Art/Music/Drama Core, and for the Music major and minor. With respect to the first category, we seek courses that focus on musical materials and design with the aim of acquainting students who have no prior experience in music with the processes of music composition. With respect to the second category, we seek courses that provide an introduction to musical composition and advanced instruction in composition for students already familiar with basic aspects of musical organization. Responsibilities for both categories of courses include preparing class lectures, holding regularly scheduled office hours, and the preparation and grading of assignments and testing materials. Lecturers are also expected to work effectively with peers, coordinators, and to respond to student needs. Depending on the curricular needs of the department, the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year.
