The Opportunity

We are seeking a 40-hour, Physician Assistant to support Sports Medicine Walk-In. Our clinics are located at 978 Worcester Street (Route 9) in Wellesley and the Boston Landing location at 73 Guest Street in Boston which will be opening in the Fall of 2024. We are open to our patients 7 days per week and our PAs may be required split their time between both locations. Hours of operation for the Wellesley location are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Hours of operation for the Boston Landing location will be Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Our PAs are required to work 2-3 weekend shifts per month.

Our Orthopedic Walk-In clinic is staffed by Orthopedic Physician Assistants and supported by board-certified surgeons from Newton-Wellesley Sports Medicine. Our team can assist with any orthopedic or sports medicine issue and is available to anyone in the community, with no appointment necessary.

Services for adults and children (ages 5 and up) include:

• Acute and chronic pain to the hip, hand, wrist, elbow, knee, neck, back, shoulder, foot, and ankle

• Rotator cuff injury

• Joint instability

• Collar bone injury

• Bicep injury

• Tennis elbow

• Hamstring injury

• Meniscal tear

• Ankle sprains

• Arthritis and bursitis

• Acute hand or wrist injury

Our PAs work under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director and Lead Walk-In PA as well as the operational direction of the Practice Manager. The Physician Assistant is responsible for:

• Performing & documenting appropriate and comprehensive orthopedic history and physical exam

• Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to:

o splint, brace or cast application/removal

o wound care/debridement

o suturing/suture removal

o injection of steroid and anesthetic agents

o joint aspiration

• Educating, instructing and counseling patients and families

• Ordering and interpreting x-rays, MRIs and other diagnostic tests as needed

• Determining/coordinating the treatment plan and follow-up schedule

• Following up with patients regarding results and ongoing treatment

• Consulting with appropriate resources as needed and referring to appropriate specialties

• Documenting patients' treatment, response and progress notes and entering orders in EPIC in accordance with Medical Staff policies

• Reviewing patient cases with on-call physician as needed

• Providing first-level response to acute patient complications and emergencies and initiating appropriate measures

• Ensuring completion of daily opening and closing procedures

• Understanding and promoting overall goals of the walk-in care program and its integration with the NWH Sports Medicine Department

• Managing In-Basket Messages and Phone Calls

• Participating in monthly PA meetings and trainings

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Required:

• Certificate of registration from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Physician Assistants

• CPR (BLS) certification required

Preferred:

• 2-5 years of experience in Orthopedics

• Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of child, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients preferred
