Responsibilities

Maintains radio communication with all police officers, sworn administrative personnel and investigators through use of various radio equipment and computer software applications. Implements and assists with the coordination of special and emergency procedures of units responding to emergency situations.

Monitors fire and security alarms, access control systems, personal safety applications and Closed-circuit Camera systems including license plate readers. Operates the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center teletype terminal, and the requests from those Information Centers via computer network terminals for criminal information needed by police units in the field.

Provides personal and over the phone customer service to the members of the University Community and general public that are consistent with the departmental policy and within the normal scope of services rendered by law enforcement personnel.

Performs administrative procedures and paperwork required for the successful operation of the Communications Center and the coordination of the departmental field activity.

Provides active instruction of the fundamentals of police communications and related activities to all police radio communication operator trainees.

Qualifications

High school diploma/equivalency and one year of experience. (Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to one year.)

  • Ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practice.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
  • Knowledge of emergency communications and hazard response practices, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ability to differentiate emergency from non-emergency situations.
  • Ability to work any assigned rotating schedule to include: 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and special assignments.
  • Ability to make quick and correct decisions, functioning effectively and efficiently in high-stress emergencies.
  • Ability to deal with crises and manage sensitive information.

Anticipated Salary Range

Starting salary is $37,000 with a Recruitment Bonus of $1,500 payable after completion of training and certification.

After training and certification, the annual salary increases to $39,000, and the recruitment bonus is paid.

Considerations

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

Must become Department of Health Certified (DOH).

Days will vary: 12-hour shifts 6:00 am - 6:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 6:00 am; 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and special assignments.
