As a Principal, Software Engineer, you will set the tone of engineering-excellence and drive processes and standards within the team. You will lead the design of complex software changes and take on the development of exciting new features. In addition, you will partner with your senior and junior teammates throughout the software development lifecycle to cultivate a reciprocal learning environment from development to debugging and operational excellence.

The talent management team is responsible for all associate onboarding and performance management. Focused on delivering world-class experiences and software solutions for new hires and providing year over year performance feedback for our associates in all markets.
What you will do:

Analyze Requirements: Explore products/solutions to meet business/technical needs and assess gaps between expectations and existing solutions.

Classify Requirements: Categorize requirements into applicable types (e.g., Functional/Non-Functional) and anticipate solution risks/issues.

Design Solutions: Assist in designing solutions for specific components, evaluate trade-offs, and convert High-Level Design (HLD) into detailed design.

Code Development: Select appropriate coding frameworks, guide the team on coding standards, and create/configure/implement code to meet requirements.

Testing Implementation: Translate customer requirements into test strategies, determine testing tools, and ensure test cases cover all scenarios.

Program Monitoring: Monitor project progress against milestones, provide inputs on project plans, and ensure adherence to the CI/CD process.

Defect Management: Track and analyze defects, conduct regression testing, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks.

DevOps Maintenance: Perform complex maintenance procedures, monitor application performance, and evaluate change requests.

Leadership & Development: Drive execution of business plans, provide supervision and development opportunities for associates.

What you will bring
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven experience (8+ years) as a Software Engineer, preferably with a focus on Java & Javascript based systems including React, React Native, Node, Spring, etc.
- Experience in CICD automation including Agile delivery, feature flags, and backwards compatibility.
- Strong experience with performance profiling tools and techniques to identify bottlenecks in code and system components.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture and design principles.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud environments and hands-on experience in optimizing applications for cloud deployment.
- Ability to analyze and interpret performance metrics to make informed decisions on system optimizations.
- Experience with performance testing frameworks and load generation tools.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their impact on application performance.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and present performance analysis findings.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of performance-related tasks and projects.
- Certifications in relevant cloud platforms is a plus.
- Openness to learning new technologies and adapting to evolving challenges.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
