The University of Miami is currently seeking a part time Research Associate 1 to work at Desai Sethi Medical Center in Miami. The incumebent supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Core Job Functions:

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:
  • Pre-screens and evaluates candidates for study participation.
  • Enrolls participants into the study by obtaining informed consent and schedules study visits.
  • Conducts study visits, interviews, questionnaires, assessments, and measurement activities per the study protocol at the research facilities.
  • Receives all required research certifications in study protocol related measure and assessments, and performs HIV counseling, as needed.
  • Gathers medical records, keeps accurate and orderly study documentation of work performed, entering into correct database or application, and responds to data queries in a timely manner.
  • Completes required forms during the initial evaluation: demographic form, intake form, database consent form, releases of information, etc. and reviews the criteria for the studies.
  • Work collaboratively with the members of the study team, community collaborators working with the study, and within the University to increase efficiency, resources and time through use of resource and continuous reflection on the study visit process.
  • Performs various clerical duties including typing, answering phone calls, preparing and maintaining study binders, and completing applications and forms, per protocol.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, training, and conferences, as requested.
  • Reports to Principal Investigator, providing timely and accurate project updates.
  • Other duties, as needed.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Experience:

No prior experience required

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
