Meta Reality Labs (Redmond, WA) is looking for exceptional interns to help create the next generation of eye tracking for virtual and augmented reality. Our research focuses on true solutions to complex tracking problems, delivering novel technologies and algorithms fundamental to future VR and AR systems. You'll have the unique opportunity to work with industry-leading researchers and engineers who are defining the future of AR/VR.We welcome PhD students in computer science, robotics, optics, electrical engineering, biomedical imaging, applied physics or similar. In particular, we are looking for candidates with experience in joint hardware-software design of imaging systems, computer vision, computational imaging, geometric and diffractive optics to help us build sensor systems and develop algorithms for next generation VR and AR systems. We welcome students with a passion for working in a strongly collaborative team that spans research across algorithms, hardware design and systems prototyping. Our internships are 16 to 24 weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Research Scientist Intern, Explainable ML for Eye-Tracking (PhD) Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement simulation pipelines to investigate the impact of image features on eye-tracking algorithm performance, validate experimentally, and derive insights to enable hardware design optimization
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across diverse disciplines through all stages of project development
  • Regular communication of research agenda, progress and results
  • Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Deep learning experience in computational imaging, explainable ML, or related topics
  • Experience with optimization or machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with scientific programming languages such as MATLAB or Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience with cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Experimental hands-on hardware experience in computational imaging, super-resolution imaging, developing or working with custom research-grade imaging and sensing systems, hyperspectral imaging, polarization imaging, or related topics
  • Experience with geometric optics, physical optics, and diffractive optics, including modeling and simulation
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications in journals or at conferences, etc
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship

$7,800/month to $11,293/month + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
