About the Department

The Section of Rheumatology was formed in 1967 when the Divisions of Metabolism and Rheumatology were combined into one Section with two Section Chiefs: Drs. Leif Sorensen and Dan McCarty. During this time, the faculty including Attalah Kappas, M.D. and Rudi Schmid, M.D. made important contributions to the understanding of several metabolic diseases. Dr. Sorensen then went on to be the Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine for 20 years and the Chair in 1997. In 1980, Dr. Michael Becker became the Section Chief and served until 2000. The current Section Chief is Marcus Clark, M.D.

Job Summary

We are seeking to hire a Research Technician in the Clark Lab within the Department of Medicine. The position would be in a research team which uses high dimensional imaging of human tissue and advanced AI analytics to understand immune states in autoimmune and other diseases of the kidney. The successful applicant would become expert in confocal microscopy and in various pre-processing techniques to ready image stacks for further interrogation by AI-driven analytics. This position would report directly to a Senior Technician and participate in weekly working meetings and weekly general laboratory meetings. It is also expected that the Research Technician would perform other research-related duties and tasks necessary for the efficient functioning of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and maintains data and/or specimens for high-dimensional imaging.
  • Maintains equipment, including confocal microscope, and supplies.
  • Responsibilities may also include the following non-laboratory duties: assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support.
  • Responsibilities will include setting up and performing experiments, interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant (e.g., immunology, biology, molecular genetics and cell biology) to the research being conducted.

Experience:
  • Experience with microscopy.

  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods relevant to the lab (e.g. tissue sectioning, antibody conjugation, immunofluorescent staining, H&E staining, microscope imaging).
