Position Description:
The Workforce Entry Navigator will support workforce students from time of application through enrollment in their first quarter. This position helps students, once they have applied and identified their interest in pursuing an AAS degree, to navigate the entry process; from identifying funding options, to making connections to Highline's academic and community support resources, to providing support with educational planning and registration. The navigator will engage students in an educational and participatory assessment process and use a strengths based approach to validate students' ability to succeed in a college setting.

The position communicates, collaborates and coordinates with multiple professional technical programs and faculty, the Associate Dean for Workforce Pathways, the Workforce Outreach and Recruitment Specialist, and various department of the college, including financial aid, Workforce Education Services, Entry Advising and Student Support Center.

This is a full-time exempt, at will position. This position may require working some evenings and weekends.

Essential Tasks

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Entry Advising and Navigation:

  • Manage CRM applicant pipelines for students who have applied for AAS programs;
  • Welcome students to Highline College through engaging, caring, anti-racist, and trauma-informed practices;
  • Provide accessible, responsive, compassionate and effective 1:1 student support including guidance, resources and referrals to support students in successfully enrolling;
  • Assist students in activating their students accounts and connecting to all Highline communication channels (Canvas, ctcLink, Highline email);
  • Connect and screen students for eligibility for a variety of funding and support resources and connect with relevant services;
  • Support access to and application for funding, both for tuition and living expenses;
  • Ensure all support resources are accessed;
  • Ensure students have access to digital literacy resources and assist students in the borrowing of laptops from Highline's IT Helpdesk, if needed;
  • Inform students of various placement options and assist in determining means of assessment that matches student skills, experience, and AAS program of study requirements;
  • Provide test-taking strategies and resources for dealing with test anxiety;
  • Discuss math, reading, and writing skills with students to inform and interpret assessment results;
  • Inform students of orientation options and requirements and assist in orientation sign-up;
  • Develop proactive strategies to engage students in educational planning and first quarter advising including assistance with registration;
  • Provide student-centered customer service in person on campus, virtually via Zoom, electronically via email and by phone, responding to inquiries in a timely manner;
  • Track services and update student records in ctcLink;
  • Use Watermark/ Aviso to maintain electronic student records, documenting and summarizing advising sessions;
  • Communicate and collaborate with Highline departments including financial aid, WES, Entry Advising and Student Support;
  • Establish regular communication channels with workforce faculty to support first quarter advising and to stay up to date on current program curriculum and pathway maps;
  • Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with colleagues and departments within both Student Services and Academic Affairs, in order to connect students appropriately and keep updated on process and policy;
  • Maintain current knowledge of campus policies and procedures to facilitate effective linkages to these services;
  • Work with the faculty advising team to assign students a faculty advisor.
  • Department tasks:
  • Participate in the ongoing planning, implementation, and improvement of the workforce department recruitment and entry advising support services to students;
  • Participate in the ongoing planning and implementation of equitable workforce policies and practices;
  • Adhere to institutional, state and federal policies related to confidentiality including FERPA, and required reporting;
  • Work closely with the Workforce Outreach and Recruitment Specialist; Outreach Services and faculty advisors to ensure a smooth transition for students;
  • Engage with and monitor qualitative and quantitative data that measures applicant to enrollment metrics;
  • Provide progress reports to workforce team which include needs, challenges, accomplishments and new opportunities.

  • Technology skills able to efficiently navigate an electronic environment proficient with Microsoft Office, Google drive, web browsers, and PeopleSoft, Campus Solutions;
  • Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and cross-cultural communication skills, and demonstrate excellent listening skills;
  • Willingness to take appropriate initiative, exercise independent decision making, identify areas for improvement and propose solutions;
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism by contributing to a positive work environment and a commitment to high-quality work;
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills with an ability to manage timelines and details.
  • Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Student Development, Social Work/ Psychology or closely related field; OR
  • Any combination of relevant education, training, and experience that indicates successful performance of the essential functions of the position.

  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in a community college or a strong understanding of the community college system and navigating college processes;
  • Understanding of student success milestones and college success strategies;
  • Experience in navigation, advising or case management ;
  • Experience with Customer Relations Management (CRM) Software;
  • Familiarity with a student management system;
  • Significant multi-cultural experiences and/or competence in a language in addition to English.
